HISTORY

The Benllech & District Good Turn Scheme was originally formed in August 2000 and it’s main aim was to motivate local people to help local people.

At this time a small group of people came together with the support and guidance of the Volunteer Bureau (now renamed Medrwn Mon) to make this idea a reality.

Over the coming months a lot of work took place to encourage new volunteers to come forward, generate the necessary funding to commence this very  important local service and put into place the necessary administration and governance required.

In March 2001, the scheme was officially  launched with newspaper articles appearing in Yr Arwydd, The Chronicle and The Holyhead/Anglesey Mail, this was also supported by poster campaigns in local shops, Libraries and Doctors Surgeries. Further marketing was carried out utilising door to door distribution of leaflets and presentations to other local organisations.

From the very first “Good turn” in 2001 we have gone from strength to strength and now have some 40 volunteers and 150 service users. Due to the dedication of our volunteers the Benllech & District Good Turn Scheme has become one of the best community transport schemes on Anglesey.

From the year 2001 to 2019, the scheme has carried out 37,148 Good Turns which represents  44,491 hours and travelled  409053 miles, which is very impressive for such a small local community organisation.
